Specialized
Specialized’s founder Mike Sinyard is viewed by many as a visionary genius of the industry. Starting the company after college, he originally imported and supplied European components to SoCal bike shops and frame builders. With the 1981 launch of the Stumpjumer, Specialized delivered the first affordable, mass-produced mountain bike to the mainstream, making off road cycling affordable and putting the company on the map. The original Stumpjumper is so iconic and revolutionary to the industry, it is on display in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
Sinyard has a very particular sense about the way each Specialized product should look and feel. The company is set up so that each product division works independently, delivering best-in-category bikes, apparel, components and accessories for every style of riding. The company has introduced many firsts to the world of cycling and consistently remains all about the lifestyle of cycling. Sinyard’s mantra: “I think cycling is the cure for a lot of things in this world.” Yup, we agree.
For nearly four decades, Specialized has helped to grow the sports of mountain and road cycling, making products for the perfect ride. From its start as a components manufacturer to today’s producer of bikes and gear for all kinds of riding, Specialized has earned its position as an industry leader.
